OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL: MIRACULOUS RECOVERY (March 14, 2015)

Saturday March 14

MIRACULOUS RECOVERY

Memorise:
And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.
Joel 2:25.

Read: 2 Kings 6:1-7
1  And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.
2  Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.
3  And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.
4  So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.
5  But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.
6  And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.
7  Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.

Message
In our scripture reading today, we see someone felling a tree by the riverside and the axe head being used falling into River Jordan. Thank God for His power that located the axe head and brought it back up for the user to complete his project. There are people who have lost very precious things in their lives. With God, there is nothing lost that cannot be recovered miraculously. To recover means to find something you once lost. There are people who have suffered partial loss and there are others who have suffered total loss. No matter the type of loss you have suffered, the Almighty God will restore them to you in Jesus’ Name. In Mark 5:25-34, the woman with the issue of blood lost a lot. She lost her health because she had been in that situation for long. She lost her wealth because she had spent all she had, trying to get help from physicians. She lost her peace because when there is absence of good health and wealth, frustration can set in and this leads to depression. But by the time she met Jesus, everything she had lost was restored to her. For a user of this devotional, whatever good thing you have lost will be recovered instantly in Jesus’ Name.

Samson is an example of someone who suffered partial loss (Judges 16:21-28). As a result of his carelessness, he lost his eyes to the enemy. Even though his hair grew back, blindness remained in his life. By that Name that is above every other name, which is Jesus, every reminder of loss in your life is terminated in Jesus’ Name. Everything you have lost: financially, physically, in your marriage and career-wise shall be fully recovered in Jesus’ Name. Another interesting story that shows God’s ability to return whatever one has lost is found in Daniel 4:28-37. It is a story about King Nebuchadnezzar. This king became so proud that he refused to acknowledge God as the source of his achievements. In a bid to humble him and teach him that man cannot achieve anything without God, God caused him to lose his kingdom. He also suffered the loss of his sanity, humanity, dignity, glory and honour. In fact, for a period of 7 years, he was not different from animals. Miraculously though, all through those years of his wilderness experience, nobody replaced him on the throne. The Lord kept his position intact until his training was over. Testimonies abound to show that the fact that an opportunity was lost does not mean it cannot be regained. As long as God is in the equation, He can reverse the irreversible. He can suspend laws and principles to make a point in your life. That is why those who think they have seen your end are in for a shocker. It is important that we always appreciate what we have so that we don’t lose it. If you have lost your peace of mind due to backsliding, you have to repent of those sins and confess the Lordship of Jesus. If you do these, you will become a new person and experience the time of refreshing from the Almighty God.

Prayer point:
Father, by Your mercy, command a recovery of all I have lost in Jesus’ Name.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL: THE PAINS OF DISOBEDIENCE (MARCH 13, 2015)

Friday March 13

THE PAINS OF DISOBEDIENCE

Memorise:
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
1 Samuel 15:23

Read: 1 Samuel 15:10-11
10  Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying,
11  It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.

Message
The sin of disobedience is a terrible sin. Nothing hinders the children of God from fulfilling their purpose in life like disobedience. Disobedience comes in many shades. It can take the form of refusal to keep to specific instructions, functioning in an office God has not called you to, courting a wrong relationship or operating in a place you are not meant to be in at a particular time. No matter what form it takes, the truth remains that disobedience is a terrible sin in the sight of the Almighty God. Disobedience compels God to turn blessings into curses, as we see in the account of Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:17). Every act of disobedience erodes your reservoir of God’s blessings. Nothing destroys a man faster than the sin of disobedience. That is the reason why you have to check your life today and take stock of your soul, so that your sky will not be turned into brass (Deuteronomy 28:23). When this happens, instead of favour, you will experience closed doors.

In 1 Samuel 15:1-23, King Saul lost his crown because of partial obedience. God expects full obedience from all His children. He prefers total obedience to partial obedience. This is one of the reasons why many of us are yet to access the blessings of God fully. Abraham was called to leave his father’s house behind but he suffered the consequences of disobedience by taking Lot along with him. Who are those people the Lord expects you to have dropped but you are still hanging around? What are those things the Lord has warned you about that you are still engaging in? These are the things that will deny you the full blessings of God. Numbers 12:8 says Moses was so close to God that he conversed with God mouth to mouth. But when he was told by God to speak to the rock and he struck the rock instead, he was severely punished: he never got to the Promised Land (Numbers 20:12). Check your life and find out those things that are capable of hindering you from becoming the best that God wants you to be. Drop them now before they make you drop out of the journey to the Promised Land.

Check your life today. If you are experiencing perpetual sorrow, suffering, disappointment and unfulfilled desires, check and find out the factors responsible. Don’t pretend to be okay when you know all is not well with you. If you confess those hidden sins of disobedience, you will surely find mercy, but if you pretend about it, you will be undoing yourself. Some people keep making effort, yet they never record any success. Several trials and much effort do not guarantee success when disobedience is present.

Action Point:
Examine yourself today and repent from every act of disobedience in your life.

DID YOU KNOW?

Knowledge = information gained
Understanding = processed knowledge
Wisdom = knowledge applied

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge...
(KJV: Hosea 4:6)

Wisdom is the PRINCIPAL thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
(KJV: proverbs 4:7)

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ASK of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
(KJV: James 1:5)

Guess what you paid for when you paid the engineer who repaired your mobile phone or serviced your laptop or your car & the money you paid the tailor who made a lovely dress for you. You paid for your ignorance, ignorance in the area of mobile phones, laptops, cars, clothe making and every other service you paid for and will ever pay for.

In all your getting friends, get understanding as much as you can, then ask for wisdom from the sole distributor - God.

Knowledge they say is power, but I think it is wisdom (application of knowledge) that is power.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL: GOD'S TIME-TABLE (February 15, 2015)

Sunday February 15

GOD'S TIME-TABLE

Memorise:
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
Ecclesiastes 3:1

Read: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
1  To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2  A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3  A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4  A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5  A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6  A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7  A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8  A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Bible in one year:
Jeremiah 51:1-51; Acts 26:24-27:12

Message
Today’s reading makes it clear that God has a timetable. Obviously, this timetable is tied to a heavenly calendar. The Lord in His infinite wisdom designed the heavens and the earth, and He allotted times and seasons to every plan and purpose. There is some truth to the quote from Shakespeare which says the entire world is a stage. The world began in Genesis and has closely followed the pattern of a drama. The timing of every act, the duration of each scene and the role of each actor strictly follows a divine script written by God Himself. Therefore, there is a time to be born, a time to laugh, a time for war and a time to die. There is a time for salvation, deliverance, and judgement. Also, there is an appointed time for the rise and fall of individuals and nations of the world.

In God’s timetable, there is a time for favour. When the time to favour you comes, you will receive divine intervention like Daniel in the lion’s den. Favour will locate you like David in the wilderness; a higher authority will become interested in your case like Joseph in prison, and all your prayers will be answered. I therefore pray in the Name that is above all other names that your time of favour shall come speedily. When your time of favour comes, the word of God in Romans 8:28 will become reality in your life:
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28

Moreover, in God’s timetable, there is a time for the fulfilment of prophecy. To be destined for such a glorious position in the agenda of the Almighty God is not a general gift and not by accident. It is usually for a purpose – a divine purpose. When your time of fulfilment of prophecy comes as experienced by Abraham, Jacob, Israel, Joseph, Joshua, Esther, David and Jesus of Nazareth, God will suspend natural laws and break protocols for your sake. He will make ways for you where there is no way. He will connect you to your destiny-helpers, and your journey to success will be accelerated. May the time for fulfilment of prophecy come quickly in your life in Jesus’ Name.

Prayer Point:
Father, please let my time of special favour and accelerated fulfilment of prophecy come speedily in Jesus’ Name.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL: FAITH WITHOUT WORKS? (February 14, 2015)

Saturday February 14

FAITH WITHOUT WORKS?

Memorise:
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Hebrews 11:6

Read: James 2:14-17
14  What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
15  If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16  And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
17  Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Bible in one year:
Jeremiah 49:23-50:46; Acts 26:1-23
Message
It is necessary to first establish the fact that the statement of James that “faith without works is dead”, applies to the fellow who knows the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Such a person knows the facts about God in the mind, is persuaded of the truth of the gospel and is in agreement with Christian principles. In fact, such a person takes part in Christian worship, is a church-goer and believes with all sincerity that he or she is a true child of God. The only issue is that such a person fails to commit to Jesus in a way and manner that leads to changes in lifestyle. Such people refuse to allow old things in their lives to pass away – there is no crossing the line from darkness to light, there is no spiritual development or growth and such a person does not bear the fruits of righteousness. James 2:17 describes a person whose faith is dead because there are no works to show for it. In Matthew 7:21, Jesus was referring to such people when He said:
“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”

It is very clear therefore that there is a form of action that must follow any profession of faith in Christ Jesus before such faith can be called a living faith. When profession of faith is not backed up with action, then such faith is dead. Many are in the Church today living their lives the same way as people who do not know Christ. The Bible in 2 Timothy 3:5a, described such people as
“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof:”
Such people profess faith in the Son of God; they claim that they believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ but they flatly deny the transforming power in the Word of God. They would do anything in the Name of God except allow any genuine transformation to take place in their lives.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Romans 12:2

Children of God, faith without works is dead, and dead faith is of no use to anyone. Renew your faith today by backing it up with active works of righteousness. Put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge and transformed into the image of Christ (Colossians 3:10).

Action Point:
Faith without works is dead, follow up your faith with works of righteousness.
